Confessions of a Beauty Blogger

I was recently tagged by the lovely Sophie over at Born to Buy in relation to some beauty blogger confession. Since I have been doing this for about a year now, I thought it would be the perfect thing to mark the blogaversary. I hope you enjoy the answers and please don't hesitate to let me know if you want any other questions answered too.

1) How many hours a week do you spend planning/writing/uploading posts?

No week is the same for me so it does vary a lot. Some weeks I have more time for blogging where as other weeks I am working too much and time is a scarce resource. Some posts are also more time consuming than others and I find that if I take the photos I want to use for the post first, I feel a lot more creative and ready for a post. In relation to planning I am either very impulsive, or I write down some ideas in my notebook. Putting pen to paper is the best brainstorming activity there is. As a rough estimate, I probably spend five hours a more a week on the blog. My reward is feedback from my readers, learning new things and I really enjoy writing so it's a little treat in itself.

2) Are you a spender or a saver?

It's a bit of an oxymoron, but I am actually both. I adore saving money and it gives me real satisfaction to see my dollars go up and up and up. On the other hand, I am a big fan of shopping too and I enjoy little treats here and there. The easiest way for me to save is to put away at least 10% of my salary every week and I also dump all my coins in a piggy bank at the end of the day. That way I am saving a little here and there without really realising it. My boyfriend and I also have a joint account and we put in extra money every week in addition to our rent. It's the best thing because we somehow have money that we don't realise we have and it is just there for bills, emergencies and a date night or two.

3) When is it easiest for you to write your posts?

I used to prefer to write in the mornings because my mind was sharper and with a coffee in hand I was feeling more ready to just whip out a blog post here and there. Lately this has changed because my job and lifestyle is different so I really write whenever I can. The good thing about writing in the evenings is that I can have a sneaky glass of vino as a writing incentive. It doesn't get better than that.

4) What makes writing posts comfortable for you?

It really depends what I'm doing. Sometimes if I need a break I will take my laptop to my favourite cafe (Gusto in Coogee) and just inhale some caffeine and the best granola/youghurt combo ever made. Other times I just write from my bed which is what I'm doing right now. It is just so comfy and I have four cushions as support. Plush is the word. I am also happy to write in the living room whilst watching TV because I get very productive when the ads are on.

5) What's your worst make up/hair habit?

Hmmm, I have been pretty good lately but I must say that I really should start using more treatments in my hair now that summer is here. It's just that I forget all the time and I feel like my conditioner is doing such a good job. I do love how soft and nice my hair is after a treatment so I will start using them again asap. In terms of make up I would say my worst habit is that I am just stuck in a rut at the moment. I have been using the same blush and foundation for ages and whilst I love the convenience of it, I do need a little shake up in that department. Watch this space.

6) What's one quote you wish the world would live by?

My personal favourite quote is "Carpe Diem" which means Seize the Day. It all comes down to making the most of our days and not let silly stuff get us down.

7) How long do you spend getting ready everyday?

I do have a very quick morning routine down pat. I get up at 6.30 and am out the door by 7.00 which includes a shower, moisturising, brushing of le teeth, top knotted hair, concealer/foundation/blush on the face and a quick spritz of perfume and deo. I also quickly make the bed before running out the door. On the mornings where breakfast is too time consuming, I bring a Carmen's bar and eat it on the go. They are so delicious!

8) What's your favourite post on your blog?

I have a few but my absolute favourite is a post I did on flattering photo angles from my trip to New Zealand about a year ago. I am planning a follow up post soon from my most recent trip to NZ which will be published soon.

9) Who is a beauty blogger that you think deserves more subscribers than they have?

I think the gorgeous Miss N from the Made up Maiden is absolutely sensational. Her nail posts are amazing and SO creative. She also had some amazing Halloween looks which you can store away in your inspiration folder for next year.

10) What's one thing you're excited about in the coming year?

Oh I have too many things and it's hard to stay focused on just being in the now. I am excited about my little sister turning Sweet 16 tomorrow, my trip to London and Norway in December, sending in the visa application will take a big load off my shoulders, my de-facto sister is getting married next year and there are also so many other great things happening. At the end of the day I just want to be happy and healthy and surrounded by good people. So far I am succeeding.

11) What's been your favourite blogging moment?

It's hard to just pick one but I have to say, I am living the favourite blogging moment. I feel lucky to have amazing readers, lot's of great ideas and good feedback for IGB. It is really rewarding and as I look back on the last year, I have learnt so much and there is still so much excitement in store.

12) How long does it take to prep for a post?

It truly depends on the topic and what the post wants to do. If it's about nail polish, it doesn't take long except for the polish drying time. If it's about travelling I like to let the pictures speak for themselves. If it is a review then I take the time to try the product in question extensively to ensure I have experienced it fully. Some posts are quick and others are long but at the end of the day it is good to have a healthy mix of the two. Sometimes I don't know what the post will be until I sit down and type on my trusty Mac.

13) Are you wearing jeans/skirt right now or are you wearing pyjama bottoms?

I am currently wearing a dress but am feeling very ready to jump into my favourite Peter Alexander PJ's. It is Monday night after all and I love going to bed early. Beauty sleep is my favourite activity.

14) What are you most proud of in your life?

I am proud of my family (so supportive), my man (the best), and my friends (so fabulous). Personal achievements I am proud of include my bachelor degree, moving to Sydney and the blog. I am also very proud of my divine grandma who at 75 still doesn't stop and who loves travelling, drinking wine and cooking fabulous food. Not a bad inspiration to have or what?!

I hope you enjoyed the Q&A and please let me know if you have any questions at all:)

Xx I

  1. Thanks for doing this TAG, Ingrid. Love your answers.
I totally agree about feeling creative when photos are already taken.
I try to have a few posts worth of photos ready at all times so, regardless of the time of day or night, I can blog 'til my little heart's content.

    Thanks again. xx

    1. You are so welcome Sophie, it was a pleasure! Xx

  2. Thank you so much for the shout-out, Ingrid, you have no idea how much it means to me!

I loved getting to know you a little bit better...I must agree that it's vital to get the photos taken, but I'm actually the other way around, for me it's so easy to write a post but just so hard to get decent photos to do it justice! :)

Your grandma sounds like someone to aspire to. :)

    1. Of course, you are a superstar:)

      Xx I
