Exfoliation Station

I do my best to exfoliate two to three times a week. Sometimes the schedule goes astray but I usually pick up on when my skin needs a little help. I prefer to stay away from grainy exfoliaters because they are too harsh on my skin and I don't want to agitate it unecessarily. Another thing I avoid is to exfoliate my cheeks because they don't need it and I focus on the chin, forehead and nose area instead.

One of my favourite masks is the Origins Out Of Trouble mask which I usually combine with the Origins Clear Improvements mask to reduce my pores at the same time. It contains Zinc Oxide and Salicylic Acid and it is one of those super effective masks that always delivers. In fact, I am wearing it right now.

The Natio Clay and Plant Face Mask Purifier is a true budget buy and it contains sesame, Lemon Plamarosa and seed oil. I really like clay masks because they are relaxing and they do their thing quietly without much bravado. When I use clay I like the consistency to be quite firm, but this mask has a looser consistency.

A gentler mask is the Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator from Jurlique. This is the only exfoliator with a pump bottle and I love the packaging. The bottle always feels cold in my hands and it is quite intriguing. As the name indicates, fruit enzymes are used to exfoliate in a softer way to ensure the skin is not over worked. I'm not a massive fan of the scent but the exfoliator works well so I will overlook it in this instance.

I have used the Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant for years and I recently re-discovered why I love it so much. The mask is non-abrasive, contains no artificial fragrances and it is activated in 10 to 15 minutes. Whilst the price tag is steep, it is one of those products that keeps giving and I really notice a difference when I use it on a regular basis.

The Renew Radiance Exfoliator from Natio is more like an exfoliating cleanser and it smells really nice. It contains Vitamin C and AHA's and it is not harsh on the skin. This is a great product to use in the shower because it doesn't have to be left on for long to work.

As you can see, there are no grains invited to this party. Exfoliators do not have to be grainy to be effective. Whilst there may be some trial and error involved to find the right one, I would recommend asking for samples prior to purchasing one because it can be hard to predict how your skin will react.

Which exfoliator do you use? Do you prefer cream, clay, grains, natural?

  1. I hate grains too, my sensitive skin doesn't react well! Might have to give one of these a go :) x

  3. I like grains! I get really dry skin around my nose and if there aren't grains, i can't get rid of it! St Ives Apricot exfoliator is my favourite.

    1. That's great to hear Leah. It's so great that skin care is made in every possible way so that those who wants grains can get them and those who don't want them can go without:)
