Happy International Woman's Day

Congratulations ladies, today is a special day for all of us. We are lucky to be living in countries with free speach and having the choice to do what we want when we want to (as long as it is legal of course, don't do what this lady did on a flight...). IWD has always been special to me and it is a big deal in Norway. I always use the day to think of the strong women who inspire me and who have mentored me in my life. I also think of those women who don't have it as good as me because it is important to remember that I don't actually have many problems, only first-world problems. I don't have to walk 2 km to find water and I don't have to be told who to marry. I read an interesting article earlier in the week from the Independent regarding where in the world it is best to be a woman, female politician, mother and 17 other items.
The definition on IWD is as follows: "International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday."

There will of course be those who say that IWD is unnecessary and that men should get their special day too. And to that I would like to say no thanks, the pay is still not equal for men and women, there is still a glass ceiling to push through and in some countries women can't vote. The sisterhood is important and we should be supporting each other and thinking of those who don't have the priviliges we do. I am fortunate in the sense that I have always been told I can do things, never the other way around. I have a big brother and a little sister and we have all been given the same opportunities and support.

Be grateful and think of the special women in your life. Today is a wonderful day for the sisterhood and it should be acknowledged.

xx
