Grooming in the Workplace

Several times a week I get to meet different airline crews in my job and the air hostesses are always immaculately groomed. They are my inspiration when it comes to grooming standards. If they can have worked 10 hours over several time zones without a hair falling out of place I can certainly strive to do the same. I work in hospitality and as such there are several grooming standards at my job. They include; hair up for ladies, no big earrings, no nailpolish, neutral makeup and don't wear a black bra under a white shirt.

To me it is incredibly important to look professional in order to make sure guests take me seriously and also that they get the right first impression. I always wear my hair up but vary the styles to make sure I don't get bored; pony tail, top bun, low bun, a variation of braids, having it pinned up and the donut. I wear neutral makeup including bronzer, a beautiful eye shadow (I am crushing on Napoleon's Star Light loose dust shadow at the moment, it just has such great coverage, is super easy to apply and is long lasting), lip gloss; Lanolips in Mulberry which is dreamworthy and perfectly work appropriate, concealer, foundation, mascara and my eye brows are pencilled in and shaped every morning. I also apply YSL's Touche Eclat wherever I need a boost, mostly in the under-eye area. In relation to fragrance, I wear the Chanel Beige which is very subtle but beautiful.
When I go shopping I like staff to be well-groomed too, I once was served by an overmade girl at DJ's who would make Jordan look like she was au natural. Needless to say I wasn't too impressed, but that was because of her unhelpful attitude, although it didn't help that it was 10 am on a Monday morning. I know we should all make an effort on Mondays but it's not party time.

Do you have grooming rules at work? What's your favourite day time makeup? Do you ever break them? I usually wear a neutral nail polish just because it's more fun than wearing nothing:)

  1. I think it's important to look professional in the context of where you work. I work in an office that isn't too serious so we can have fun with clothes and make up within reason. We do have to look presentable at all times but it's nice to be able to express yourself if you feel like it! But i do prefer to do the natural, polished look more often.

  2. It is so true. I don't have a lot of room to move in relation to what I wear/makeup and so on but I'm pretty jealous of people who can do whatever they want:) It gives me more inspiration to take it all out on my days off x
